The day I had to dispose of my vinyl LPs due to a house move was a sad one indeed. Much more that this was one of those lost. To find it again on eBay was a joy and a delight. I simply bought a CD reissue of the original album - deluxe re-release with extra tracks is also available. At this stage in his career (1977) John Martyn was moving beyond the folkie+plus+Echoplex period by adding other influences. Reggae and even a touch of world music before it was known by that term influence this album - one track is a Lee Perry co-write, Rico plays trombone. Other musos present demonstrate the eclectic mix - there's Dave Pegg for the folkies and Steve Winwood for the hippies. All recorded by a lake at Island boss Chris Blackwell's pad, this is chillout music (again, before the Cafe Del Mar crowd had ever been invented) with a gentle insistent groove. With classic songs like the title track, 'Big Muff', 'Couldn't Love You More', 'Dancing' and 'Small Hours' this is a release to rank with the very best of Martyn's output. It belongs alongside 'Bless The Weather', 'Solid Air' and 'Grace And Danger'. Don't miss out on one of the great albums of the Seventies.Read full review
John Martyn's 'One World' is a fantastic album showing alll of John's expertise in guitar playing and his song writing skills. Not quite as good as 'Solid Air' in my opinion mind you it's impossible to beat perfection, so my rating is relative between two fantastic, well thought through musically perfect albums. Would recommend to anyone serious about their music.
For those who like ambient,chilled sounds then this album is the grandaddy of all. Way back in 1977 John Martyn created a sound that still sounds good today.
This album is only surpassed by Solid Air in terms of mood and sesitivity. A true Classic. Thanks John RIP
