Additional InformationSet in Paris at the turn of the century, this delightful Lerner and Loewe musical, based on a story by Collette, follows a precocious French girl as she is groomed into a would-be courtesan, blossoming into a stunning woman. The story provides plenty of opportunity for Minnelli and MGM to pull out all the stops in its first musical production shot on location.
ReviewsChicago Sun-Times - ...A marvelous, original work..., USA Today - ...Widely regarded as the last of the great MGM musicals...

An excellent musical set in Paris with renowned actors Maurice Chevalier, Leslie Caron, Hermione Gingold and many others.
It contains many hit songs such as "Gigi"," I remember it well", The Night they Invented Champagne, and many more. Photographically breathtaking for the time, early 60's.
The actual film is great. I always loved Gigi , the actors and setting in Paris. It's the film itself which is disappointing as at certain stages in the film, the white turns to bright blue ! Most disconcerting!!! I presume it must be the age of the film itself as this purchase was sealed and new.
Great to have this film. The opening scenes of an elderly male staring at a group of pubescent girls ('Thank Heaven for Little Girls') may raise some eyebrows in today's more keenly aware environment, but the film is charming and worth a showing to the GrandGirls (who, of course, may or may not like it!)
Beautiful story with classical actors- Louis Jordan has always been a favourite being brought up on old movies and Leslie Caron was and is always stunning - I plan to watch it over and over
