Chris Rea's "On the Beach" CD Album is a first edition release from 1988. The album falls under the Rock/Pop genre and features the artist on piano. With a duration of 60 minutes and songs in English, this studio recording showcases Rea's musical talent in a 1980s era setting.
I first heard this album when I was travelling through Europe in a car, early in the eighties. I played it over and over again, and it only grew better by each listening. I never go tired of listening to it, as the melodies are of such high quality. Every song is a masterpiece, and it's difficult to just name a few highlights.
The outstandingly beautiful melodies, Chris Rea's lovely, melancholy voice, the excellent musicians, everything works together to make this one of my absolut favorite albums. It's maybe because I first listened to it in the summer, but to me it sums up the essence of summer; bittersweet joy, the feeling of lost possibilities, friends gone by, but also lazy days spent on sunlit beaches. Many claim that The Road To Hell is Rea's best album, but to me, On The Beach is his the peak of his work. Everyone who loves good music should have this album in their collection.
