From the first track "Amor Verdadero" I was hooked. Everything I love about Latin music, sweet trumpets, superb percussion, the fabulous Ruben Gonzalez on piano, Orlando Cachaito Lopez on bass guitar, great singing from Manuel Punitillita Licea and Barbarito Torres weighing in on the Laoud a sort of medieval guitar which gives a very distinctive sound and this man is SO GOOD, you name it it's here. The next track "Alto Songo" another great which features Ry Cooder guesting on slide guitar. This group features something like 50 of Cuba's most brilliant musicians spanning four generations and many of them including those I have mentioned as well as Ibrahim Ferrer, Pio Leyva and Manuel Guajiro Mirabel featured earlier in the Buena Vista Social Club recordings and DVD. There is plenty of variety and opportunity for these stars to show off their individual talents with some great solo's on the piano, trumpet, guitar and not forgetting percussion (for example the beginning of the "Maria Caracoles" track)which is pretty central to everything Cuban. The album ends with "Elube Chango" which is a great expression of Afro and Cuban influences. You get the feeling these guys are really enjoying themselves and I certainly am.Read full review
