You have to be a serious fan of Emmylou Harris to fully appreciate this album. I am a serious fan. It's a concept album, with most of the tracks written by her, following on from "Wrecking Ball" (1995?). She's not a songwriter by nature, yet when she puts her mind to it, the results are truly terrific. This album needs to listened to a number of times to even begin to appreciate it. Her musicians are excellent and the album has a haunting, nostalgic quality to it, full of both joy and sadness.

As if Emmy couldn't reinvent herself anymore with 1995,s Wrecking Ball, she comes out with another superlative album in Red Dirt Girl. A very moody,emotional and powerful album,and boy can she write a great song. No Cowgirls here,just an audio delight from start to Finnish.
