Worthy of its' acclaim !
Although much has been said about this being a groundbreaking album , and influencing many greats in its' wake . The Beatles SGT PEPPER album being amongst them ? I don't recall ever hearing this from start to finish . Having heard Sloop John B again recently and kind of , finding something in there that i must have overlooked in the past , i decided to get this . Pet Sounds sounds great!
When people say this is one of, if not the greatest album of all time, they are not kidding. The fact 50+ years has passed since its release has not dimmed the quality. Apart from that, the layered vocal style of God Only Knows, changed recording techniques from that point on. You have 3 chart classics here (God Only Knows, Sloop John B, Wouldn't it be nice), all different dimensions of Beach Boys style. "I just wasn't made for these times" may well have been Brian Wilsons personal statement but stands as a piece of music on its own. Put this on, sit down and LISTEN. Make no judgements, no praise, not til its over. Time will prove, and is proving, that this is such an important collection. It should touch everyones life in some way at some point. Brian's current Pet Sounds tour has proved what fans old and new think of this. Yes it was a Beach Boys album, but is essentially the heart, soul and mind of Brian Wilsons creative genius at that point in time. Pure, pure Genius!Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
