GORGEOUS***
This is a truly lovely cd. Anne Sophie Von Otter, whom I only knew as a classical singer, hits exactly the right note (and notes, of course) in these warmly wistful songs, with the brilliant Elvis Costello, composer and lyricist of many of them. Perhaps my favourite, though, is Tom Waits/Paul McCartney’s “Broken Bicycles/Junk”, which drew me to the collection in the first place. Wonderful!

A Terrific Combination!
Although at first sight this looks an unlikely combination, this is a very special cd. Anne-Sophie von Otter, for a classical Mezzo, does an amazing job with this selection of non-classical songs, some by the excellent Elvis Costello. The small backing groups of top-notch session musicians, even extending to a member of Abba, add to the magic. Most thoroughly recommended!
