Purchased as a birthday present for my daughter, who is a Judy Garland fan. The recording has many of the songs my daughter likes & to hear Judy Garland live makes it all the more enjoyable.
There arent many great performers in any generation and you should sample every one you can. Madonna isnt a great performer, she's a great Producer who puts herself at the centre, pulling together the various elements of her shows from the talent she spots and gets to work for her. Garland could stand alone on bare boards and make you weep or laugh out loud just by singing. The great performers (again compare Madonna) communicate raw emotion and Garland did that like no other in the post war period save perhaps Edith Piaf. Another contrast with modern superstars, is the mastery of the Classic Hollywood generation of all aspects of their craft, whether it be acting, singing or dancing. Different generation, different tastes and priorities true - but just stop, look and listen at what Garland and her colleagues could do and show some respect.Read full review
