Andrew W.K. Fact or fiction? An artist in his own right or a bizarre offshoot of Dave Grohl's musical master plan. The jury is still out but, quite frankly, who cares? The simple fact is that W.K. is responsible for the most heart bustingly supercharged noise crescendo of an album in years. Imagine vintage Van Halen with Dave Lee Roth's ego excess replaced by Joey Ramone's dumbass rhetoric running face first into Spector's 'Wall Of Sound' and you're getting somewhere near the aural blast that is Andrew W.K. After laying down the noise manifesto with opening track 'It's Time To Party', the band proceed to throw all manner of musical influences into the blender only for it all to come out spitting blood and looking for butt to kick. From the Beach Boys through a mincer grunge of 'Girls Own Love' to the awesomely pumped up ska of the title track via the stripped down punk of 'Party 'Til You Puke' there genuinely is no weak track on this album. Some may complain that there are no 'softer' moments. Hell! IF YOU NEED THE SPACE TO BREATH YOU SHOULDN'T TAKE THE RIDE! This record will take you by the throat and shake you mercilessly before leaving you in an exhausted heap of shattered nerve endings. At 38 years of age, I had given up hope that music could be this honest, this raw, this downright exhilarating. For that, I thank God for the phenomenon that is Andrew W.K.Read full review
I bought this CD because I like the song "Party Hard" and one of my compilation CDs has "I Get Wet" on it, which I also like. Now that I have the CD, I do enjoy it, but a lot of the songs are either quite short (12 tracks with a duration of around 30 mins) or sound very similar. The better songs are the afformentioned ones, but the CD is still good. If you're a fan of Andrew W.K. then this CD will not disappoint. If you can pick it up for about a fiver, then do it. Thats about what its worth. Any more you're being ripped off I reckon. In all, as CDs go, it's not the worst one i own, but not the best either.
No one likes Andrew w.k. . Rock fans don't like him, pop fans don't like him. Which is unfortunate, cos his music is in between both. And it's also the happiest, fun music there is. When I first heard party hard, I thought "this is the sort of music I want to listen to with a big smile on my face". If you ignore the cover with the blood on his face, and don't take it too seriously, you'll end up enjoying this album for what it is, a big fun rock/pop party.
Bought due to having heard the track 'Party hard', this short album (12 tracks in just over half an hour) is a good old-fashioned knees-up, not unlike Chas n Dave in energy - but with shout-along choruses over a well-produced metal beat. Tracks are about partying, drinking, partying, girls...and partying! A belting album, well worth the £1.99 I paid!
