This is an album I first encountered on Vinyl in the early 90s. A recent listen to one of the tracks on the radio reminded me how much I had liked it then. The second encounter is just as enjoyable. To me, this is the definitive Simple Minds album, thoughtful, articulate, considered, musically sophisticated. Not a bad track on it. Brilliant stuff.
This was when Simple Minds were all about "big" music. They were stadium rockers and with Mick McNeil on keys they could fill the stadium with sound. Features their all-time classic Belfast Child and Mandela Day which was written especially for the Nelson Mandela Day Concert. It doesn't have the catchy hits like Alive and Kicking or Don't You Forget About Me, but features a more intelligent sound that just gets better and better over time. Unfortunately they never managed to match this album once Mick McNeil left the band. This is a masterpiece.
