Mac Mini 2018 - Great Computer in Small Package
I've been a fan of the Mac Mini for years. I've had a G4, a core Duo, a "Late 2012" and now this 2018 i5. For general purpose computing, it offers a lot of capability in a small package. It is also very power efficient, so you can leave it running without using up a huge amount of electricity. Since there's no monitor attached, you don't have to throw away a perfectly good monitor when you decide to upgrade your computer.
The 2018 model offers a predictable performance boost over the 2012 model. It is not an extreme gaming machine. The graphics are adequate for videos, zoom meetings, and photo editing, but you won't be able to brag about your frame rates to your gamer friends.
This package came with Mac OS 11 "Big Sur" installed. Big Sur runs fine, but unlike the new M1 Macs, this 2018 model can still run OS X Catalina, so I can boot off an external Catalina disk and run the applications that haven't been ported to Big Sur.
