Sony a7r3
Had this camera for a month now after coming from Canon. At first, it took me awhile to come to terms with the focusing system which is totally new to me but, I follow photographers on YouTube who use the same Sony system and they all have uploaded videos explaining the Cameras focusing system.. I used the camera for my first Model shoot of 2018 yesterday evening and coupled it with the Sony 85mm f1.4 GM lens which will be my go-to lens for portraiture from now on as the Bokeh is absolutely unbeatable.. Eye focus did struggle when underexposing the back-lit Model and lighting her with Off Camera Flash. But otherwise, eye focusing is a great feature to have in the new Sony cameras.. Handling was superb and didn’t struggle with gripping the size of the Camera body as some say their little finger is in mid air due to a small camera but I love it! I certainly wouldn’t advise getting the battery grip as it then makes the mirror less camera the same size as a DSLR. The new Sony a7 mk3 is grabbing all the headlines at present but if you can afford this a7r3 don’t hold back-get it! The images that this camera produces is flawless, you won’t be disappointed. I also use the Fuji XT2 for professional work so, if you’re looking to change from Fuji to Sony -don’t! The Sony lens are sooo expensive and Fuji lens give excellent results too and lighter and smaller when size is involved! The new Battery in the Sony a7r3 lasts far longer than the Fuji battery which I think should have been upgraded in the new Fuji X-H1 but wasn’t to be!
The file sizes are
42Megabites so make sure your pc can handle these sizes.
You will need a fast-SD card or writing too due to large files but, if doing still photography you won’t need a fast writing SD card.
The EVF on this camera is far better than the new a7 mk3 but if you do video the a7 mk3 is better I’ve heard from others.
The Sony Menu system has always taken a slating but in this a7r3 you can programme your own settings under “My Menu” to save hunting through the Sony Menu which help speeds you up on a shoot! There’s plenty of self programmable buttons present so you can customise the camera to your liking and if you’re not sure how to do this, there’s plenty of videos on YouTube showing you- who needs a Users Manual these days lol.
Happy Shooting!
