Spiffing Fun
This is a mixture of original music and a little dialogue, mostly to lead into one of the songs from the 20s and 30s, taken from the TV series. The original stuff is basically the opening credits theme, done in different ways to meet the situations that it's played as incidental music in the TV series. The exception to this is "The Amateur Dictator" which is a longish brooding piece to go with Spode - the thuggish yet ludicrous would-be dictator. On the cd, is it to remind us of the dark political under-currents of the 30s? (I don't know!)
The 20s and 30s stuff is all up tempo, of its time, and fun to listen to. They go very well with the TV series.
I've heard of a few of the musicians used - Kenny Baker and Frank Ricotti for example. I'm not knowledgable enough to comment on the arrangments (etc.) but it all sounds pretty good.
The cd (and cassette tape) are difficult to come by - from memory I don't think it sold that well at the time (1992), and hasn't been reissued.
