Aside from a few fairly interesting musical ideas, especially in the area of musical 'arrangement', this is a poor album. I'd never heard this record and bought it purely on the strength of both my own admiration for Julian Cope, especially the excellent 1984 debut solo album "World Shut Your Mouth", and other reviews here on Ebay. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. With Cope you really have to be prepared for the very best and the very worst - sadly this falls into the latter category. But Julian has become a sort of religious figure to many people, so I don't want to knock him too much. Suffice to say that I agree with nearly all his sentiments; I just wish the music was better!

Julian Cope is a god like genius and this is one of my favourite pickings from his vast back catalogue. Forget the Teardrop Explodes-except for Copey's mad writhings, Cope as a solo artist is an eccentric song writer and performer. His songs can be sweet, raging and soaring. Lyrics that make you smile and music that makes your body twist. Indie, grunge, psychadelic honey drips from every song. You'll be a better person for hearing it. Classic and essential.
I have a collection of over 100 albums and well over 400 CDs. This is, by far, the best of the lot. It doesn't matter how many times this album is played, you find something new every time. It is a masterpiece! Cope is a God (something he DEFINITELY wouldn't agree with!) Not one for grannies or Cliff fans. If you haven't got this album, you haven't lived yet. Get it. Now! Steve
To put it bluntly if you like Cope but don't have this you must get it. For me the best he has done including all that came after.
