7 - Very Good - "...BROTHER SISTER is a fine album, as far as it goes. The upbeat vibe they're noted for floods out from the opening tune...", 3 Stars - Good - "...BROTHER SISTER, the band's second album, is not unlike its American debut three years ago: chock-full of '70s funk and soul references, with a bit of fusion jazz and '90s reverence for all that is old thrown in....What N'Dea Davenport brings...is an ease of execution and a keen sense of style. She is as fluid as the band is tight, as blase as the players are intent....", "...BROTHER SISTER is a chunky, funky blast...N'Dea Davenport's...singing is far more compelling than before--alternately smooth and sassy...BROTHER SISTER is like a great party: lively, varied and good-humored..."
Although this album is 14 years old, it has a spark that will never be out of date. The versatility of the musicians show they have a natural ear for music, each track being different from the others. They play with a funky style, on the edge of jazz...wonderful vocals and use of instruments. I bought this CD for a friend, but couldn't resist playing it a few times before handing it over....there is a wonderful cover of "midnight at the oasis" which most people would recognize. On the whole, a pleasant surprise[its on my ipod now!] Happy listening...Phil Mueller
dream on dreamer is probably the best track they'll ever do..absolute floorless production......although dream come true is probably equally as good this lp and their debut one are far purer than any of their later ones if you like great funky sounds and a beautifull voice the heavies and n'dea is the perfect mix. check for 'heavy rhyme experience vol1' too!
Brother Sister is probably the best album from the Brand New Heavies, its got a summer feel good flavor that makes you want to move. i think this was their second album after the remastered first. It all went a bit too safe after this for me.
This is in my summer collection or for one of those chilled out days.
In this album the lyrics are very catchy and even if you dont consider yourself a singer you will find yourself in secret singing the lyrics. I recommend for those that like earlier Jamiroquai days, then to try this album.
