  • Gardiner Arkhiv Beethoven collection.

Excellent CD set of period performance Beethoven under the conducting of Sir John Eliot Gardiner captured the feel for what the music must have sounded like for the original audiences. Gardiner's interpretation has had its share of criticism, but he has amble justification for his choices. He gets excellent support from the orchestra, chorus and soloists. Nothing is wasted in providing a superb set of performances that will be remembered. The recording is well balanced and the sound quality is excellent. One would be well rewarded to have this set, or the individual recordings, in their library. The format was also appealing with the packaging tasteful and well-designed. DG has pulled off another fine set. Very well pleased with this collection.
