Janet Rawlins painted this collection of wild flowers as relaxation, whilst carrying out commissions for large scale machine-embroidered fabric collages. She trained as an illustrator; has illustrated children's books, designed fabric collage jigsaw puzzles, and for many years produced drawings and cover paintings for Dalesman magazine. 'A Dales Countryside Cookbook' she compiled and illustrated (with over 150 drawings) in aid of the Dales Countryside Museum in Hawes is now in its second edition. Better known for her Dales landscapes in fabric collage and watercolour, she has held many solo exhibitions in Wensleydale. A GBP3 donation from each sale of this book will be given to Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (www.ydmt.org) to support the charity's Hay Time project which aims to safeguard the future of precious wildflower hay meadows in the Dales. As well as working with farmers to restore upland hay meadows that have lost some of their botanical diversity and wildlife value, the charity also provides opportunities for people of all ages to learn about and experience these rare and beautiful habitats.
