  • The Gorta Mor - the Great Hunger

This is a miniseries set during the 1840s when the Great Famine descended on Ireland. The 4 McGann brothers said they would never all act together in one movie, until one did their family tree and found the essence of this story belonged in their family. It is engaging from the minute it begins right to the end. And the ramifications are still felt today. The characters are fully layered with personalities that are easy to relate to even now. Of all the Famine movies this remains my favorite and I think the best because of the varied characters portrayed so well. The manipulation of the people by the wealthy, politicians, and church need to be understood and never forgotten.
