These shims are used on the Veritas Domino Joinery Table. This set of six comprises two each; 2mm, 4mm and 8mm. The shims fit either into the slots in the milled cavity for the Domino base plate, or they can be placed on each side of the cavity.

Veritas side clamp honing guide
The guide is beautifully engineered and holds varying sizes of blades, from narrow chisels to plane blades up to 60mm wide with ease. But...there is a considerable amount of play in the roller bearing; almost 1mm, which allows the unit to rock laterally. This is particularly noticeable with a narrow blade. Axminster tech department contacted veritas, on my behalf, and were told that this is a deliberate design feature. To my mind this completely negates the point of a honing guide. The guide should allow you to easily mount the blade, sharpen the blade and get back to work with the minimum effort. This design feature will allow rounding the corners of, for example, a plane iron with considerable ease but requires considerable care not to round the corners of a narrow chisel. Consequently I've returned the guide and have gone back to using my old Axminster guide, which incidentally costs half the price of the Veritas guide. Axminster, as usual, provided an excellent service pity about the Veritas guide.
