5 tracks, each purely instrumental and 8 to 10 minutes long. Pretty much all starting really gently before beautifully building to a crescendo, before subsiding then growing and repeating (and maybe once more). Its lovely to listen to but, if you are short of mp3 disc space, record the first 4 minutes of any song and loop it 10 times - you wont miss out on much.

‘The Earth is not a Cold Dead Place’ is a marked departure in style from its predecessor, the wonderful ‘Those Who Tell the Truth…’ Gone are the swooping and soaring rock guitars, replaced with a more carefully controlled approach. The new style works superbly on tracks one and five. ‘First Breath After Coma’ layers chiming guitars on a heartbeat pulse before building to a climax of shimmering beauty. ‘Your Hand In Mine’ is anchored with a strong drum pattern before introducing a guitar line after two and a half minutes which is breathtakingly beautiful – a real goose-bump moment of true inspiration. Elsewhere, the band do let loose with their trademark guitar explosions, but in a far more measured way. ‘The Only Moment We Were Alone’ teases the listener for eight minutes before letting rip spectacularly. ‘Memorial’ finishes with an astonishing burst of noise. This is a lovely record and beautifully played throughout but the downside would have to be a slight lack of variety. The tracks do sound very similar and the CD takes a lot of listens to fully appreciate. Track three,‘Six Days At the Bottom of the Ocean’, threatens to build and climax like track two but never really delivers.Read full review
This is an album of contrast, most of these guys material has a little more build before it explodes. This is for those of you who are sick of the same old metal and rock, it exists on a far longer timescale and comes from the minds of some very very deep men. Mogwai and sigur ros are the two bands people will know who exemplify the genre, but explosions have a far less rocky, less bandlike sound. This is brainfood in its purest form, strongly reccomended.
Another musical rollercoaster from the post-rock outfit. Very emotional, charged with energy and feelings. A great listen, recommended, along with any other Explosions in the Sky LP.
Considered my favorite album from these guys, maybe even in general. Has the most beautiful guitar you will ever hear! Putting this in my player and listening to it on my home theatre system is amazing, all i can do is sit, close my eyes and enjoy some excellent music. I highly recommend this. A++
