In Disney's Beauty and the Beast for the Super NES, you portray a self-centered prince who is turned into a hideous beast by the magic of an enchantress. As if that isn't enough, all the servants in your castle have been turned into household objects. In order to break the spell and return to human form, you must find the one you truly love and earn her love in return.<br><br>In the first chapter, you must seek your potential mate, Belle, in the castle halls. Chapter two has you following Belle into the woods in the dark of night. Beware, packs of wolves are on the prowl. Next you must win Belle's love by finding her the perfect gift. The fourth and final chapter finds you being stalked by Gaston, whose unrequited love for Belle has driven him to anger and hate.<br><br>Unlike his human alter-ego, Beast is a powerful creature whose stomping and slapping abilities can crush spiders, bats, frogs, wolves, rats, stone gargoyles and other enchanted enemies he will face. Using his special super stomp, he can pound the ground and release hidden items. <br><br>These items include rose petals, which give you extra time, hearts, which give you an extra try, and mirrors, which let you see what lies ahead. You can also pick up color-coded books that give you momentary invincibility, extra slapping power and other abilities. If you pick up the books in a certain order, you will receive bonus points.<br><br>In addition to beating up enemies and finding items, Beast can jump, duck, climb, and pick up and throw stones. In a special courtyard level, he can catch snowballs thrown by Belle. This can win you up to three extra tries. You also receive a free try for every 50,000 points you score.<br><br>If you get stuck in a certain part of the game, you can have Beast let out a roar, which freezes enemies and activates certain platforms and a particular type of bat.Product Identifiers

SNES Beauty & the Beast review
This game has become more expensive, I suppose because it had a smaller production run than other games. So expect to pay up to 100 for a copy in good shape. Despite reading some negative reviews, I really wanted this game and was not disappointed. Is it a masterpiece for the SNES? No, but it's fun. The music from the game sounds great if you're familiar with the songs from the movie. The graphics are big and well done, although several levels are a bit too dark on screen. The gameplay is fun after you figure out the mechanics. I don't know that a 5 or even ten year old would make it past the first level, but for older gamers, it's no problem. I breezed through the first half of the game without much trouble. Some levels will require REPEATED play throughs though. Kind of old school in that regard - I love games like that, others may not. Beauty & the Beast is not for someone looking for an easy game. I would rate it's difficulty as 7 out of 10. There is a cheat code that allows you to level select basically. I found this great so as not to beat it in one sitting. Fun, particularly for fans of the movie, but not spectacular.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
