An excellent & eye-opening documentary showing the dangers of fast foods and the effects that they can have on a person. The only thing that I dislike about this version, is the lack of scene selection and extras. I bought the DVD 'cause I really enjoyed it when I saw it a few years back and I got it at a bargain price!
Super Size Me – a seemingly low budget film made by amateur film maker Morgan Spurlock looks at the effects of Fast Food in a tongue in cheek style and how it affects America as a whole. Morgan’s epic task is to eat nothing but McDonalds for one month. Sounds great but that’s breakfast, lunch and dinner plus snacks for 30 days. Not so great if you think about it. The ground rules are: He must eat everything on the menu at least once; He must super size his meal if it is offered to him and he could only eat what was available over the counter – water included. He also must do the average daily exercise of the average American only 2000 yards per day! His weight gain is measured weekly and his health is monitored by three different doctors. Super Size Me which is Morgan’s first feature film is filmed in a low budget home video style but this brings the whole concept down to earth. The amateur approach makes it feel more realistic and portrays Morgan as an average American which appeals to the audience. Morgan’s lighthearted approach of interviewing techniques and almost self-mocking makes the film thoroughly enjoyable. His interviewees are chosen wisely and they add to the comic appeal of the film.Read full review
This shocking feature length documentary, rocked the world and the fast food market in just hours after it's release! Morgan Spurlock stars in this mind-shocking, documentary where he vows to eat nothing but McDonalds food and drink for 30 days. He loves McDonalds so where's the problem? Well, he makes sure to get a full health check from the doctor, and checks his health at weekly intervals through this controlled experiment, only to discover shocking results! Are you aware of what you are eating? This film was the sole reason for McDonalds and indeed all conglomerate fast food chains to introduce their healthy range of salads and fruit. If for this reason alone you watch the movie, then I feel this film has earnt it's valued place in history. This movie is definately worth renting, but not really a favourite movie to see over and over again, unless you are doing further research into "junk" food, nutrition or food documentaries. But be aware this film is not an easy viewing, it contains visably shocking images and facts that may turn you away from ever purchasing another fast food item ever again! Morgan Spurlock has, since the success of this film produced a tv series called "30 Days" where he spends 30 days 'testing' each idea. He is certainly someone to watch out for, he dares to run, where others fear to walk!Read full review
I really enjoyed this documentary film and highly recommend it. Even if you live in ignorance, this film will open your eyes so far they won't close again. This actually did change the way fast food works forever which I find quite amazing. McDonalds claims this film had nothing to do with their new 'healthier' option... Watch the film and make your own decision ;) obviously did. America lives in quite a lot of ignorance so it seems and this film made a huge impact on the country and part of the world. The 'Super Size' option is no longer available now due to this film (about time!!) and for that, I must commend Morgan Spurlock-Film director and star.
