I gave this DVD five stars mainly because of John Thaw's accurate and very believable portrayal of Air Marshal Arthur Harris, head of RAF Bomber Command from 1942 in WW2. Harris, after the war vilified by many as a war criminal, was driven by the notion that bombing alone could win the war, and John Thaw convinces in the role as the man who was convinced he was right.. This film was made for TV and relies on archive film, but this is understandable in view of movie budgets, and for me does not detract from the story. If WW2 is your thing it's worth a watch.

I missed this when it was first aired, so a pleasure to discover a brand new copy at a great price. A very thoughtful & thought provoking production with Harris played impeccably by John Thaw. The whole arc of the allied bombing campaign is portrayed, along with Harris’ often fractious relationship with other RAF leaders. The moral question is addressed with balance & without descending completely into cliche’. Recommended.

Brilliant portrate of a very determined man. John Thaw is superb as Bomber. Politicians have stood arms length away from him now, but he did what he had to do. Otherwise we would not be reviewing this.

A fascinating window on the Arthur Harris and his world, if you want to go beyond the distorted emotional view of him, read his book "bomber offensive" and watch John Thaw bring this amazing and difficult man to life
