Cartoonist Stanley Ford, a confirmed bachelor, attends a party one evening... and is bewitched by a blonde Italian knockout who pops out of a cake. Then he does a very stupid thing. He marries her on the spot. Though his new wife is a happy homemaker, a man's man like Stanley has no stomach for domestic bliss. When his attempts at separation fail, he gets an idea. Known for always acting out his hero's scenarios before putting ink to page, he stages her murder and sketches a cartoon based on the scheme. When his wife sees the funny pages, she is frightened and vanishes. Mission accomplished. You'd think from the title this film would be quite macabre. Extolling the virtues of the single mans life the confirmed bachelor cartoonist Mr Ford, and butler Charles have their life thrown into hilarious chaos when Mr Ford marries the girl who pops out of a cake at a friends stag party. Mayhem ensues in this brilliant classic. Women might mistakenly think this film is for guys only..however the basic premis behind this film is love. The man isnt complete without the love of a woman..and Jack Lemmon,Virna Lisi and Terry Thomas all put in great performances. Virna Lisi looks stunning in this..such a shame she turned down a big hollywood career for fear of being type cast.
