A man is brought up in the forest as an ape, then he is trained to be a Man. Then the heroin saves him, but Human Nature being what it is??? well i'll let you find out. Very funny. Thanks Mark
I bought this item due to it's Charlie Kaufman script. Also it's directed by Michale Gondry who did Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind, and stars Tim Robbins and Patricia Arquette. The plot of the film is very strange and involves a girl with extra body hair and a man raised by a man who thought he was a chimp. At first this put me off but I knew I had to see it based on Charlie's other screenplays. The film itself starts quite well and is fast paced and comical. You can tell the film will have to slow down at some point, you just hope that the characters are interesting enough to keep your attention. It turns out they are and for the first half of the film apart from an unexpecting outburst of singing the film holds up really well. Dissapointingly it the plot starts going in circles and you realise there isn't enough material here for a full film. I will eventually watch this film again, because although there are a lot of loose ends, the comedy and pace of the first half make it easy enough to sit through. Overall, a film to complete the Kaufman collection that although not a patch on his later work(this was his first script), still an enjoyable film.Read full review
I love Michel Gondry's visionary genius, so i thought I would obtain this... I was warned this wasn't a great film, well it wasn't great but It is amusing in parts, imaginative and interesting. But that is it? not a film I would recommend you to buy but borrow of someone if you don't have an interest in the subject, however the questions it asks about nature and environment are clever.. Kaufmann seems to specialise in *mixed* message films. I enjoy them as I enjoy a puzzle. They are thought-provoking both in theme and in details This film is on the same level as Being John Malkovich and is better then Adaptation which i thought was very overrated....personally... The love triangle is between the leads is very well thought out, and the choosen actors were spot on... Tim Robbins (he used to play mad scientist back in the 80's -Howard the duck!-LL!), Patricia Arquette always manages to make a role convincing...and Rhys Ifans plays himself but more ape-like...perhaps that is why sienna Miller likes him..LOL! Why do i say it's average well , you wouldn't really want to watch it again unlike Being John Malkovich and the imagination isn't on the same level as Eternal Sunshine and the excellent 'Science of sleep"... But to learn how Gondry started and if you interested in left field movies this is worth watching...Read full review
