A Glesca Great!
Sent tnis particular copy to the States so can't attest to the quality of the actual DVD but knowing the content very well and having come from a background in which stories of the Steamie abounded in my early years I can assure you this is a wonderful play! It has everything - social background of the era with an emphasis on the role of women, great humour and empathetic pathos. It would appeal most to folk with a working class Glagow background and a bit of knowledge of the 'patter' but if you just want to be really entertained give it a try. Sheer nostalgia!!
Remember going to the local Steamie with my husband's Grannie, with her old Silver Cross pram loaded up,a flask of tea and a packed lunch, loved it! The ladies were all so very friendly and helpful to one another- topics aired were many and varied, more like a social therapy session, where they could have a moan and get things off their chest.
