the brilliance of the late Jeremy Brett
It's wonderful to see the fine acting of Jeremy Brett, the two very brilliant actors that play Dr Watson are delightful foyles for the charasmatic character of Sherlock Holmes. Jeremy's versatility and alacrity as a nimble, cat-like Holmes vaulting over sofas and out through windows, his theatrical personification is why he is described the definitive Sherlock Holmes. On the negative side, as an animal lover, I did find watching the horse drawn carriages and carts rather painful, but I am aware that the majority of viewers won't find it so. Sherlock's brother Mycroft is not plausible as the unfathomable and intellectually powerful brother of Sherlock. Here there is miscasting - and unfortunately Jeremy is absent in one episode and Mycroft takes his place. Some of the episodes are definitely grizzly. The best episode of all is the first with Gayle Hunnicut. Not just because there is no violence but because it has a certain magic and lightness that the other episodes don't contain, perhaps this is somewhat due to the charm of Gayle Hunnicut.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
