Captain Jim Leets knows The Master Sniper can see in the dark and he's going to kill someone important. He has to convince his boss before it is too late. Hunter, through his characters, weaves a complex story skillfully, using the jargon, military procedures and politics of both the Allied and German armies of the day. Blended into that are intricacies of the SS bureaucracy and the escape of a Warsaw poet from it's deadly grasp. As it often happened in reality each side has some lucky breaks. You can feel the clock ticking as all the characters fight to get their man.

The author has written a great story based on the tour of duty of Carlos Hathcock a Marine sniper. It is a great book which I had read when it was published. I am thrilled to finally have a signed copy. I loaned a copy to a former POW who took a tour of Vietnam and he read the chapter where Hathcock and his spotter disrupted a major NVA attack on a Special Forces outpost just before he toured that area. The author has written a number of excellent titles on his character Bobby Swagger. Stephen Hunter’s book are all great reads.

I think it's Hunter's first. Only 25% of the way in so far, but a good read. Intriguing.
