This game came out for the original Xbox and now that it's compatible with Xbox 360, you should buy it. If you're a fan of First Person Shooters, this is a great game to own but make sure you get the "Limited Collector's Edition" as it also contains 2 full versions of the classic games, Doom 2 and Ultimate Doom as bonus features on the disk. Doom 3 is a great game. While the story line isn't that great, the creepy-ness factor certainly is. Play this alone....in the dark...and expect to jump out of your seat a few times. Monsters come out of the shadows in the darkened Mars Research Facility you're exploring when you least expect it and the contrast between light and dark in the game is very strong, expect to use your flashlight....often. But that just adds to the vibe of the game as does the ambient noise in the game. Take my word for it, this is a scary game. And after having played Xbox 360 games for about 2 1/2 years now, I can honestly say that the graphics of this Xbox game aren't that far off. They hold up pretty well when compared to other games like Condemned or Bioshock. Doom 3 has the perfect mix of FPS and puzzle-solving. You'll need to find keys to open doors, access computers and find hidden corridors...but it's not tedious enough to make you give up and play something else. The puzzles are challenging but they don't take away from the game and as you venture further into the depths of Hell, it just gets better....and scarier. Give this a try. You can find it for about $15 and it's definitely worth playing. Especially if you're a gamer on a budget during this tough economic times.Read full review
I have never played the PC version, so I don't know how this compares to that version. The graphics in Doom 3, in my opinion, are top notch. The Npcs are all very detailed and smooth. On the other hand they also look a little unhuman. The monsters also look great, and are plentiful. The sound effects don't seem to stand out as much, as the graphics do. I don't know, they seem generic I guess. You have your screaming monsters and what-not, but that's about the height of the sound department. The music that the game does have,is grating, in my opinion. Where the game shines the most is, playability. The game is fast paced and at times spooky. You'll think you cleared a room just to have something new pop out at you, keeping you on your toes, or whatever. Throw in all the extras, the first two Dooms, the whole G4 bhind the scenes episode, concept are, ect.. How could you pass this game up?Read full review
Anyone of interest in First Person Shooter games should play this one at least once in my opinion. Ultimate DOOM and DOOM II back in the 90's were the first of its kind delivering fast paced, intense violence, and straight up gore fest shooting. From slaughtering demons, to diving into the pits of Hell itself. DOOM 3 Started new with the current generation and updated software to bring us this visually stunning masterpiece back to life while including its original roots and playability with the first two classics as a bonus. If you want to see where shooters started then this is for you. Scary, violent and fast paced. DOOM goes full retard as soon as you start up the disc.

I bought Doom 3 because I started gaming playing the original Doom years ago and loved it. I finally broke down recently and bought an Xbox 360, mostly to play Doom 3. I bought the limited edition because I liked the idea of having the metal case for it and because the limited edition wasn't really that much more than the regular edition. I like Doom 3 because all of the levels are updated and more realistic. I was somewhat disappointed in Doom 3 because it seemed like I was doing the same thing over and over; running around and shooting different creatures. Some of the features were kind of annoying. For example, the flashlight feature needed some work. I ended up buying Quake 4 because it was specifically made for Xbox 360 and because a lot of the annoying features from Doom 3 were fixed. It still seems a little boring, though. I guess too much online and multiplayer gaming over the years has ruined me towards 1st person shooters. If I had played Doom 3 years ago, however, I would have been thrilled. I defintitely feel it is a good game overall and at less than $20 bucks it is a classic at a bargain price.Read full review
As strict fps player I would give Doom III 8.5 out of 10 stars. It is a nicely done modern adaptation of the original game released by id in the early 90's via shareware. For originality I would give this game an A rating. Use of light, or no light, makes for a spooky effect that ads to intense game play when playing alone at night. I know Doom III three is not the only game to use this effect but I believe it was the first release on the xbox platform to utilize it. I was startled on more than one occasion. However AI leaves something to be desired and patterns quickly become evident. If there is an item in which you need such as a medkit, armor shard or clip, you can be sure there will be a creature from hell to fight first. Story line is so, so. If you are a SciFi fan then it may appeal to you. I found the whole Mars thing to be a little boorish. If you like scifi fps and monsters from hell then this is your game. It is no Halo but I would say it is worth the purchase. Play through it or two or three times then sell it on Ebay.Read full review
