    Sign away three days of your life

    The main reason I believe it to be excellent is that I could not stop watching it, so around work and eating it took three days or so to watch every episode. I know all the Palliser novels and thought the way the individual books were knitted in to the Palliser background was superb. A bit of ironing out of some of Trollope's extremes (eg George almost diabolical in the novels, more normal on screen). Old-fashioned, comparatively slow by today's standards, but so much subtlety and detail.

    Pathetic Pallisers

    Nothing wrong with the quality of the actual DVDs, but I'm sure, even in those old days, women were not as bird-brained as Susan Hampshire portrays! And Mr Palliser himself is totally BORING ~ no emotion whatsoever & large parts of the dialogue he spends pontificating about parliament..

    Highly palatable political drama

    An astonishingly good adaptation of this great sequence of novels. As soon as you have adapted your eyes to the 1974 production values, which takes about three minutes, you are swept up in the multiple stories and politics of the Victorian age. Beautiful engaging characters, finely acted by great actors. Twenty six parts is still not enough. We wanted it all to continue forever. Anthony Trollope would have surely approved. Simon Raven's script is stunning.

    I watched this wonderful series when It was broadcast originally, I was 11 at the time and loved it. I have just finished watching it again & was not disappointed. I Love it all over again, Great writing, Excellent Actors & Actresses who give Outstanding performances. I love real history & the subject matter of 19th Century Political Issues Such as the Reform Bill combined with the Family, Romantic & Personal Relationships & Interactional Interplays were as Fascinating now as when I was 11. Excellent Boxset, Highly Recommended For People with patience & good taste.

    Pallisers

    This is definitely an old production and the acting creaks and lack some of the sophistication of modern productions. But it is still excellent and engaging in its story lines and gives a great insight into the life and politics of the the times. It makes one realise how much many of the freedoms we enjoy today had to be fought for.
