Sorry difficult to do a proper review as my son wanted this DVD set as a Christmas present for his father - who is mad on the West Wing. He was very pleased to get series 5 as it was the last one he needed to complete the set. They both find the series amusing and enjoy watching it together.
I love the west wing as it is a very good series, funny, sad and engrossing. I don't understand all the political references as it is set in America but I love the characters. I bought it to ensure I had the full set to watch when I want to.The price was very reasonable and cheaper than in the shops which is another reason why I bought it off ebay.
Unlike some of the other reviewers, I thought that series 5 was one of the best. My wife and myself are self confessed West Wing groupies god knows what we will do when we have finished the last episode of series 7!. I bought this series because the copy we had of series 5 (part of the complete series we bought from a company in the US ) started of as unplayable and since we did not want to miss a single spoken word, spotted this copy for sale and made sure we got it ( sad aren't we ).Nonetheless, we are glad we did ( the remaining discs in the original collection played fine!-typical ),because this recording is immaculate in excellent condition and as I said rivalling any of the other series I would urge anyone to watch and appreciate both the script-writing and of course the superb acting.Read full review
Showrunner and creator of the West Wing having left at the end of season 4 is hardly noticed in this phenomenal 5th season which maintains the high stakes and pressure as the staffers of the white house enter there 6th year and things go from fantastic to mouth wateringly good as the season starts with the effects of bartlet envoking the 25th ammendment to the final 2 episodes leaving a life hanging in the balance after a horrific event in Gaza. the west wing maintains its status as one of the best US shows in history.
having watched west wing on tv from the beginning, my wife and i became addicted to the series. we have now purchased series one to five and are enjoying them once again with a very fine cast and superb acting. the price of series five was excellent which was quite encouraging. we do however miss rob lowe as sam. series five is a mixed bag with some enthralling episodes and some quite boring.
The first episode of season 5 illustrates exactly what it is that makes the West Wing so good. Following on, there are are number of excellent episodes in the early stages of the series. However, i have to agree with the previous comments. There is an episode filmed as a 'fly on the wall' documentary which is just deadful. When I heard this the first time i was intrigued. After having watched 5mins of it, I have to say it's the worst episode of the WW. Even if it was true, it's just a terrible piece of television. I didnt watch all of it. This wont make much difference to serious WW fans but dont expect the same quality of drama as was written by Aaron Sorkin.
