This cult favourite from 1954 stars legend Joan Crawford in one of her most memorable and unique roles. In the film Joan plays Vienna who runs and owns her own saloon and she is somewhat of an intimidating figure, but she has a heart of gold and she soon meets Johnny Guitar played by Sterling Hayden. Soon after they meet their love affair begins, but so does the trouble and what price will they be prepared to pay................. The film has the distinction of being the most unusual western of it's time and while many die hard western fans dismiss the film out of hand,it certainly stands side by side by side with other westerns of its day! Unusual for a western is the unique use of colour which Johnny Guitar has and also unusual is the subtext that this film undeniably has and that reason alone has been instrumental in propelling this film to the cult status it deserves and most certainly has! I whole heartledly recommended this film, especially to film fans who may not be interested in westerns on the whole. I myself wasn't a particular fan of the genre, but after viewing this masterpiece....my opinion most certainly changed!Read full review
One of the great classic westerns. The film was advance for its time when exploring relationships, and has a fantastic twist to the story line. This film was recommended by a friend who lent me his copy.I just had to have my own copy, and having watched it for the second time, I see things that I didn't pick up on first time.I was transfixed from start to finish.Joan Crawford was superb.A must watch film.
