The problem with Doves is I can never decide which of their albums is best. Is it the quirky and chilled out 'Lost Souls', the anthemic and emotionally charged 'The Last Broadcast' or this, a more mature and reflective album? This album is worthy member of their back catalogue. With each listen it becomes richer, deeper and more satisfying. The singles 'Black and White Town' and 'Snowden' are a fraction of the great music on this album. From the title track (a plea to the town planners of Manchester) through to the final haunting song 'Ambition', this is a band making music for the sheer love of it. They never imitate other bands (a rare thing these days), they always sound like Doves. If you have never bought a Doves album, buy this and fall in love. If you are a fan, buy this and fall in love all over again.Read full review
