I bought this product purely because of it being two albums packaged together and thus cheaper. The two title tracks are very normal Deep Purple fare and good for it. The rest of the tracks have the new input from Glenn Hughs and David Coverdale heavily stamped on them. Very unlike anything that went before, softer and bluesier. If you can wipe away previous DP material from your memory these albums do stand up in their own right, with very obvious insights into the Rainbow and Whitesnake bands to come. The remaining standout track being "Mistreated" off Burn. One overiding niggle is, Can Glenn shutup from singing and let David get on with the job! His sqeaking is rather irksome in places. Interestingly, both Rainbow and later forms of Deep Purple have performed, and recorded, even better versions of Mistreated, basically beefed up, which is what these two albums lack, no oomph!Read full review
had my original nicked. so bought this double cd. to me burn is there best album and burn the sinlge is by far my favourite song. super guitar riffs, mega drums ,excellent vocals, the best rock band ever. no one comes close apart form black sabbath and the like. stormbringer is not far behind. there is not one song i dont like on both albums and a bargain at the price. all rock bands today should aspire to be as good as this band were and still are.
great two albums. got them both on vinyl back in 74. great buy!
