These compact discs introduce the Carter Family who are generally regarded as one of the leading influences in American Country music. Covering their earliest years of recording this 5 disc box set contains 127 tracks. For sheer output of work the Carter Family are impressive, after that it becomes a question of whether you like what they produced. As a fan of Bluegrass, Old Time and Traditional Country sounds, with other Country enthusiasms reaching to Jim Reeves, Johnny Cash and other more recent performers I bought the set as a reference. Having heard some Carter Family recordings before, I wanted to own a large collection of them. I am suggesting that if like me you have some idea already what you are getting into, you may well enjoy having so much at once. For me it is a reference collection, just as I have an Oxford Dictionary of Quotations to refer to if I want to know "who said that?" and I would not want to read the whole book at one time. If you like the Carter Family you will like this set. If you are not sure, there are shorter selections of their songs available on other compact discs. For the adventurous and for the established fan I would thoroughly recommend this product.Read full review
