One of my favourite composers created a stunning piece of music and "Eroica" was the result. It has every emotion covered throughout and takes the listener on a journey, originally in praise of Napoleon but later changed but none the less thrilling. There are moments where to a new listener it may sound chaotic but it impacts on the mind as an essential aspect in bridging quieter moments. The film has some great characters, Beethoven himself portrayed well, but some irritating no-alls that are shown up by the success of the work. It is worth buying if you are a fan of Beethoven and love the contrast of soft gentle movements existing with dramatic crescendos, I love it.
This item replaced an old video I had. As such, it is an excellent replacement. For years I have thought that I would have liked to be a fly on the wall at this performance of the symphony, and here is a first-class realisation of that dream. The whole production is completely engaging: the characters are brought to life, not just by their physical presences, but through features such as their facial reactions to the music and the event. The performance (on period instruments) is at times breathtaking. So, I couldn't be a fly on the wall, but I certainly had the feeling of "being there". Technically a very fine production, and a dream come true.
