.... therefore I'm not really that interested in anyone's revamp. It is a trendy modern-world mistake and it happens all the time. They tried it with Reggie Perrin (disaster), and Bilko (disaster), Dad's Army (well, guess what?) and mow this. Whatever next? Mind you it does provide evidence - if any were needed -of the dreadful state of British television. Ever since we were forced to have lots more of it - 24/7 and many more channels - the quality has nosedived. Now such a fuss is being made over a blasted silly cookery programme. Am I the only person who couldn't care less what happens to Bake Off? It can Piss Off for all I care. I despair when flicking through the channels now: the menu is impoverished, often vulgar and almost always on the intellectual level of an ant. However the black and white episodes of MR on DVD2 of this set - there are five episodes including the very first which I do recall seeing when originally broadcast in 1965 - offer a wonderful antidote to today's shortage of imagination, talent and foresight.Read full review
