It's really hard to go wrong with any chick flick, and this one was no exception. While it wasn't unpredictable, or tremendously original, it did execute it's premise well. Hugh Jackman, and the rest of the cast are likable and seem authentic to this American. In short (very short): if you like romantic comedies, you'll probably like this one. Even at this high price it's worth the cost. Which I suppose means that it's better than 8 of of 10 American made romantic comedies.
A lovely film really enjoyable

Hugh Jackman turns everything he appears in to pure gold and 'Paperback Hero' is no exception. Set in outback Australia, the movie tells the story of road-train driver Jack Willis, a typical man's man! However, this particular man has just written a novel. A romantic novel! And to avoid embarrassment he needs a name - a woman's name. So he chooses that of his best friend, Ruby Vale. However, when a city publisher turns up to sign 'Ruby Vale' to a major book deal, Jack has to convince Ruby to play along and keep up the charade. But what will happen when Ruby's fiance finds out? This movie has everything going for it. An outstanding cast - Hugh Jackman, Claudia Karvan and the excellent Jeannie Drynan, among others - beautiful Australian scenery and some outstanding music. (Roy Orbison keeps cropping up!) Hugh Jackman gets to show off his singing talents once more and everything moves along at a cracking pace. It's clear from the start that Jack and Ruby are meant to be together and you're just willing them to pull themselves together enough to realize this. But if the course of love always ran smoothly, then movies like this just wouldn't exist and then where would we be? What would life be like without the good ol' weepie?! 'Paperback Hero' isn't exactly a tear-jerker, but it has a nice old fashioned feel-good ending and that's enough for me! If you're into movies like 'Die Hard' and 'Blade', then this probably won't be your cup of tea. (Strangely enough, I like both of those movies, and the subsequent sequels, but that's another story!) But if you like gentle romantic comedies, Hugh Jackman and happy endings, then I heartily recommend this movie. Turn down the lights, settle down with a glass of wine and a box of choccies and have a quiet night in! You're worth it!Read full review
