What a worthy purchase this DIGITALLY RESTORED version DVD is. Having got used to watching degraded itv4 transmissions of the Sweeney episodes, I thought I'd start buying the DVDs. And starting with the 1974 pilot I am very impressed. The picture quality on this RESTORED version is superb and plays well on both standard and upscaling DVD players. The colours of the original filmstock are all there in 4:3 ratio and the extras add new dimensions to a classic story. You can watch in original as transmitted mono or with a fully restored 5.1 Dolby surround soundtrack (and music). Or you can have a 5.1 music only option (like on many original Doctor Who releases). There is a commentary with 'Carter' and a couple of others which is moderately interesting, and an interview with the creator Ian Kennedy Martin. If you are buying a copy of Regan, buy the Digitally Remastered version!Read full review
love the sweeney i have the series on dvd classic
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned
For someone who never saw the pilot movie, this dvd puts everything in place. All the action is typical sweeney and the language starts from almost the start of the dvd. Brings a lot of memories back especially the fashion and the cars The dvd, at least from this seller was presented well and if it is a copy, its not easy to tell. The only thing that spoils the dvd is the fact that the movie has breaks in it i.e. end of chapter 1 start of chapter 2 as if it were on the tv. All things considered top dvd, i cant wait to watch all the others in the series
Network Releasing have done justice to Regan, the Pilot to the groundbreaking British cop show, The Sweeney. Full of gritty realism, salty dialogue, top notch performances, and excellent supporting characters - especially the grubby photographer, Uncle Ernie, Regan got the audiences excited as these TV heroes were cut from a totally different cloth to say, The Saint, The Persuaders and Jason King. Regan & Carter are two detectives working for the Flying Squad (Sweeney Todd in Cockney rhyming slang, hence the series title), hard-drinking, chain-smoking, mixes with villains and tarts to get information to 'nick' other villains and tarts. No other television series has ever got close to the brilliance of Regan & The Sweeney.
Hi this is a good film which is all action for its 77 mins which was the for-runner of the Sweeney Series which ran in the 1970,s I felt this was a good conceipt of Policing in London as it was in mid 1970,s This film is rated as a 15 for viewing and there are the odd tough bits plus a smattering of oaths nothing like todays televised drama. There is an interview with creator Ian Kennedy Martin plus Commentary with Dennis Waterman actor, Ted Childs producer, and director Tom Clegg, which adds flavour to this DVD.
