If you're looking to play in league modes like the English Premiere League or the MLS, this is the only game to buy. It has 21 Leagues and 10,000 Players! The EA Sports workers must not have slept creating all the players. In that aspect it is an incredible game. But if you're looking for a soccer game that's purely a great gameplay experience, go with Winning Eleven Eight. FIFA's graphics aren't as good as Winning Eleven's either. But FIFA holds its own in game play that is realistic most of the time. But other times, players part like the red sea and let you walk right in on goal, or your pass will go the opposite way that you directed it to, which is frustrating. All in all had I not played Winning Eleven, I would have thought this was the greatest soccer game ever made.
Bought this game in hoping to teach my son about the soccer game, since he is used to video game consoles. Like every little kid in the U7 league, they are all now buzzing around a soccer ball and not really understanding positions and strategies. Like the real thing, soccer isn't that easy if you're playing 11 on 11. I'm hoping to give him and accelerated understanding of soccer via this game and I'm having a hoot listening to the commmentary especially growing up as a teenager watching the English Premier, Italian, and Brazillian Leagues.
The first time you play FIFA 06, you'll be prompted to let the game know which of its 500-plus teams is your favorite, and then, before you know what's going on, you'll be challenged to a match against a formidable "Classic XI" squad that counts such men as Zico and Eric Cantona among its players. Winning that match will award you your first 1,000 points to spend at the fan shop on such unlockables as classic player profiles, all-star teams, different-colored balls, alternate team uniforms, extra player celebrations, new stadiums, and season highlights footage from last year's German, English, French, and Italian leagues. To stand a chance of winning that match, you'll need a good grasp of FIFA 06's control scheme, which--although there have been some improvements made since last year--certainly won't be a problem if you're a fan of the series. If you're not a fan of the FIFA series but are taking the time to read this review, it's probably because you're a Winning Eleven devotee, in which case you'll be pleased to know that the PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions of FIFA 06 let you opt for an alternate control scheme that's straight out of Konami's soccer franchise. The PC game also features customizable controls, although it's impossible to re-create Winning Eleven's controls perfectly. Once you've decided which button you want to use for shooting and which you want to use for long passes, you can start familiarizing yourself with some of FIFA 06's new controls, which include using the D pad or left analog stick to change offensive and defensive tactics on the fly, as well as using a single button to perform a dummy move (either to yourself or to a teammate) whenever a pass is headed your way. There are eight different tactical changes and team mentalities you can switch on and off on the fly, including counter attack wing play, box overload, offside trap, and zone defense. Like many of FIFA 06's new features, these aren't really explained in the instruction manual but are instead covered comprehensively via easy-to-follow help screens in-game. Other changes you'll find on the pitch in FIFA 06 include much simpler (almost to the point of being retro) control systems for set pieces, much-improved commentary and TV-style presentation, and the all-new playing-style feature, which affects your team's performance based on how well your players feel the match is going. This doesn't necessarily mean that your team will become stronger if it's winning, though, because your players' morale is influenced by recent action on the pitch rather than by everything that's happened since the kickoff, as well as by whether you're playing the match at home or away. The boost your team will get from stringing together a few good moves against a team it's losing to is definitely noticeable, and you'll find the opposite is true if you're in charge of a winning team that's struggling to retain its lead. Individual players can also be affected by events on the pitch, and if you notice that one of your players is feeling particularly down, it's invariably a good idea to replace him with one of your substitutes--none of whom enjoys sitting out match after match on the bench.Read full review

I like that the game is easy to handle and that the controllers are so flexible when it comes to changing towards your personal comfort. the players and the way you can play with another person makes it that much better to have it, I love this game so much I would recommended if you are a soccer lover and you like to waste sometime infront of the TV. The game could have a couple of more things but for the year of the game they are getting better and better. enjoy if you want to buy the game.
FIFA 2006 for PS2 is a very addicting, very time consuming game, that to me is a good thing. I've played other soccer video games in the past, this game gives you tons of teams to pick from and that's a huge option. Everyone knows soccer in the states is not nearly as big as it is in every other part of the world, and to the novice soccer fan he may not appreciate or take advantage of the leagues such as FA English Premier or the Spanish league. Your are able to play as such stars as Ronaldihno, Henry, Rooney, Crespo the list goes on. You even get the privlage of unlocking the greats- Beckenbauer, Hugo Sanchez its awesome ( except for Pele'). If your a hard core soccer/futbol fan than this is the game for you, like Madden is to the football fan FIFA is to soocer Video game fan.
This game is and has always been the best soccer gsme out there. The depth and strategy you can employee are amazing from wing traps pushing up lines and many other combinations. A terrific edit roster mode and every team in the entire world from every league, only exception being international teams this is for true soccer fans who appreciate and know the world leagues. The huge flaw in this game is there is no world cup mode that is because ea is greedy and wanted to take advantage of the world cup hype so they made two games. This game is however the one to buy more depth and more time was taken with it. Buy this game and play it for yourself.
It's a very fun soccer game. Even those who do not like soccer can enjoy it. My two cousins do not like soccer but they did enjoy playing this game. Game has a lot of different modes and it is fun and try to complete the fifa challenges. The only downfall is it does not offer much as far as setting up a world cup competition. For that I would recommend the world cup edition of this game. The best place to purchase this game is on eBay.
Good and perfect

I'm a little biased, being a soccer player myself, but I still think Fifa '06 is a great game. It's extremely realistic and very easy to pick up on as a beginner. It remains one of the better sports simulations on the market today.
