The Garmin GPS comes with software including city navigation maps, Europe maps, marine cartography, Middle East maps, North America maps, South Africa maps, and South America maps. The Garmin GPS V mountable takes four AA batteries and has a battery life of 25 hours, keeping you going even on long trips. The Garmin GPS V has a high-impact, plastic alloy body and an IPX7 waterproof standard making it suitable for withstanding splashes, rain, or snow, and incidental exposure to water of up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes. Additional accessories that can be purchased to increase the functionality of the Garmin GPS include a detachable antenna and power/data plug with auto DC and AC power cord. Other accessories allow you to select a variety of different mounts, cases, and covers, as well as lanyards and clips for personal carry. Maps are getting dated, and a bit heavy
Have been using Gamin GPS V on a bicycle for the usual benefits,ie turn by turn directions and trail file. This is an older unit with limited memory so will not store entire US at once. Also because it uses small sections of maps, you can not use the maps that are currently available, last one I know of was published 2004. Garmin no longer actively supports this model. I have found the unit is robust having survived several falls off the handle bars when the mount breaks

Older GPS still works great for my use.

Solid and reliable product
I have used these Garmin GPS models since the late 90's. I still have all of them and they work flawlessly. They were built with the outdoors in mind. They're waterproof, rugged and easy to use. By today's standard they're primitive, but if you know how to read maps, and work with a PC you can operate this unit with ease. I wired them into my Jeep and other vehicles as semi-permanent Navi's but I can pull them out as need. They show detailed description of satellite reception so you can position as needed to get a better fix on your position, they have various settings for Navigation either on road or off.
