This DVD release of 'Marc' Bolan captures him in the mid seventies when he was on the crest of a wave of resurgance in his career. The shows may have seemed a bit corny at the time but now some 30 years after his death it brings back of lot of great songs and some even greater memories for not only the true fan but also for those curious enough to travel back to the glam rock/punk era when music really did make a differance to everyone.

I was a major fan when this was screened on ITV in Aug/Sept 77... I remember the anguish of Marc dying before the final show was transmitted... I bought a vhs video macine specifically to record the re-run show the following year - so have essentially had the contents of this disc for 30 years... It was always a bit lame and out of place, even at the time, for Marc to be so up for the experience of doing a childrens TV show... Though to be honest I still find watching these performances rivetting.. Firstly he was looking stunning - and regardless of the very weak recording of tracks such as Jeepster and Get It On.. Others such as the title track 'Sing Me A Song' the then single' Celebrate Summer', 'I Love To Boogie', 'Let's Dance' 'Endless Sleep', 'Hot Love', 'New York City' and the duet with Bowie, 'Sleeping Next to You' shine with a strange poignancy that even after all these years is so compelling... I initially bought this dvd the day it was issued.. This particular version is for my five year old daughter... Several months ago she came in to my room when 'I love To Boogie' was playing, she was instantly attracted to it, wanted to see it again and over the ensuing months has literally become obsessed with this dvd (in particular) and loads of other selected Bolan discs.. She has learned the words and melodies to loads of his songs and really has taken him to her heart... I never push Bolan on my kids (I've got an older daughter at 28 and a son at 26, another daughter at 11), none of whom have any interest in Bolan's music... Just watching the magic in the music, transending the generations is fascinating... Having her own copy means a lot to her, she now bounces around her bedroom, miming away to loads of the numbers... If ever I needed reminding that Bolan's enduring influence is around, it's things like this that let me know just how special he was/is... After all that I would like to wind up by wholeheartedly recommending this to anyone.. It may not be the most charasmatic and musically remarkable of Bolan's many video performances, but certainly for the next generation it's the perfect kick off point.. I HAVE BEEN A FAN OF T.REX FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER, AND WATCHED THE SHOW WHEN IT CAME OUT ON T.V, A LONG TIME AGO , AND HAVE BEEN AFTER THESE SHOWS FOR A LONG TIME AND JUST NAD TO HAVE IT WHEN I HAD THE CHANCE. GREAT DVD ,GREAT MUSIC ,ITS JUST ASHAME THAT SOME OF THE SONGS ARE REPEATED, BUT HE STILL A GOD AND ALWAYS WILL BE..FANTASTIC...
edited highlights from the marc tv series from 1977 would like to have seen the full shows on the disc including the guest performers like the jam and generation x not a bad disc but would have liked more highlights from the shows
