A GROUP OF KOREAN MARINES ARE SENT TO A REMOTE ISLAND (ROMEO POINT) TO FIND A LOST PLATOON WHO HAVE BEEN SENDING DISTRESS MESSAGES. A BADLY BURNT/DISFIGURED SOLDIER WHO SAYS THAT HE IS THE ONLY SURVIVOR FROM THE PLATOON WARNS THEM NOT TO GO, CLAIMING THE PLATOON WERE KILLED BY 'GHOSTS'. AFTER A SLOWISH CHARACTER 'BUILD UP' THE PACE REALLY STARTS WHEN THE UNIT REACH THE ISLAND AND START TO EXPERIENCE JUST WHAT REALLY HAPPENED TO THE LOST PLATOON. THERE ARE A FEW BIG SURPRISES ALONG THE WAY AND A DECENT ENDING. ON THE DISC EXTRAS THE PRODUCER EXPLAINS THAT THE ACTORS WORE/HAD AUTHENTIC ARMY GEAR, BODY ARMOUR AND WEAPONERY - TO MAKE IT AS REAL AS POSSIBLE AND IT CERTAINLY ADDS TO THE FILM. NOT KNOWING ANY OF THE ACTORS HELPS AS WELL - YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHO WILL LIVE OR DIE ALONG THE WAY. ONLY A COUPLE OF COMEDY MOMENTS COST THIS TOP RATING. SUPERB.Read full review
I first discovered R-Point late one night on television, unfortunately so late I couldn't stay awake, no matter how much I wanted to. After a second failed attempt to watch the film on telly, I'd seen enough to merit buying the film to watch in full. R-Point did not disappoint, being one of the most original horrors I've seen for some time. While hollywood seems intent on churning out needless remakes, asian cinema seems the place for new ideas. Although enjoyable as this film is, I expect some of the atmosphere has been lost in the translation. Reading a film by subtitles may be enough to put some off, but those willing to give this a watch should find it rewarding.
