  • A little on the noisy side running

I put this saw on a stand to hold it upright to cut tubing for work on my bench, zip tie the trigger, I use a light switch to cut power when not using need both hands to cut tubing, saw is a bit noisy running for any length of time, has a very able speed I use 2, don’t know it it’s the saw design but blade had stress cracks after only 6th day of using had to change it, teeth were still sharp, blade makes a quick bend off the top tire to straighten between roller guides may have shortin life we’ll see how long second blade last

  • Seems like a great saw for the bucks

This seems to be a very well made saw no more than I have used it. I have used all the major brands costing 3 and 4 times as much as this saw. I will have to use it more to give a lasting review, but so far it's a great saw at a great deal.

  • "Variable Speed" note to consider

I really like this saw for what it does @ the value it costs. Works just great, though I found out something I hadn't expected. Other more experienced shoppers may not be the least surprised, but I had been expecting "Variable Speed" to be by simply the amount of progressive squeeze of the 'trigger' but, no, the variable speed control is a seperate wheel -turn-knob up on the side of the machine. You have to stop take one hand off power tool, reach up and adjust another click or two, start again with it now hopping and jumping from a dead start that is too fast for a dead start. Other than that , for me, any way , my WEN saw is great !

  • Pleasantly surprised!

I was a hardcore skeptic when I purchased this portable bandsaw. I actually wasn’t sure if it could hold up to the task that I had planned for it, especially for more than half the price of the competition. Thank goodness I decided to take the gamble because it did two things for me. Firstly, it saved my arm from hours of frustration using a hacksaw. Second, it cut the steel like butter. Being able to slow the speed or increase the speed on the fly made a huge difference in the way it cut. Getting the blade on was a bit of a challenge at first but I managed. The device weighs about 15 pounds so there really is no need to apply downward pressure, just allow the blade to do its job and keep ahold of the device with both hands while it cuts. It also has a built in light that is directed towards the work piece. This little feature was a huge benefit as it helps you see what it is you are cutting without the need for an additional light source. The saw appears to be well made. If you need an affordable portable bandsaw I do highly recommend that you give this saw a try.

  • 10 amp 5" variable speed portable band saw review

I ended up taking the chance and buying the WEN porta-band. It arrived quickly and I pulled it out to put it to use the same day it arrived. After the first cut through some damascus, I wasn't really happy. The cut was at an angle I knew I had held it firmly against the plate while cutting. I took the bottom plate off to see if there was an adjustment that I didn't see in the manual -- yep, read through it to see if I was blind while adjusting it -- and I didn't find anything. The next day, I loosened the bottom plate, and began testing shims that I had on hand -- using a 123 block to give me a good idea about when it was at 90° to the blade. I had to stop with regular metal shims as I didn't have anything thick enough on hand. I resorted to folding a paper towel over itself several times and managed to shim it quickly after that. I did a few test cuts on the damascus and the new cuts were straight. The cutting speed with the included blade is good and I never knew I needed an LED headlight on a porta-band until the moment I turned it on. Extra light with aging eyes is always welcome! Overall, I'm very happy with the WEN for the price I paid. Though, I probably need to mill a shim to replace the paper towel at some point

  • Porta band

I've used Milwaukee and DeWalt. The Wen in my opinion is just as good. It's built just as well and one third of the price. It cuts very smooth and is variable speed for different materials. The blade size is the same as the Milwaukee and DeWalt so they are easy to find. I would definitely recommend it and would buy another one.

  • Bandsaw

This is my first handheld bandsaw,I bought it mainly for cutting aluminum car pistons in half, although a little on the heavy side I found it had more power than you could ever use, variable speed very easy to adjust.cut through hardened aluminum race pistons like butter.I plan to try it on horseshoes next, very hard steel, for the price am very happy with this tool

  • Can't go wrong unless you use it 8 hours a day.

Great value for the money. Weight is a little more than what I anticipated. Does the job.

  • Good for the price

Nice cheap bandsaw. Works great, but the blade that came with it lasted only a few hours of operation before snapping. Used to cut a bunch of aluminum billets.

  • Great saw..

Great saw..no need to pay more for expensive name brands, it’s almost identical to my Milwaukee saw that died not even a year old. Pleased with this one so far.
