My Best Detector So Far
Replacing a Whistler CR-88 and Bel RX-65. Very sensitive, Decent K-band filtering. Still susceptible to some blind spot false alarms but very reliable when it comes to Ka-band. OK out of box
Lot's of false "k" band readings from automatic doors, road condition cameras along highway and also other vehicles occasionally. Played with settings briefly and didn't seem to make any difference. Appears to have a very long range on highway for straight line driving which is great as that is what I bought it for. Uniden R-1 Extreme Long-Range Laser/Radar Detector. Most powerful and effective radar detector I have ever owned. Stealth, high performance, and easy to deploy. Has alerted to both laser and radar with plenty of advance notice to check speed. There is nothing that I don't love about the Uniden R-1. Sticky mount dash mat keeps detector where it's placed on dash. (Extra $5 appx.) Also added four (4) silicone/rubber feet by Shepherd to elevate the unit slightly in order to not muffle the speaker which is located on the underside of the unit. Great features and performance for a good price.
It comes with a detailed manual but I recommend one watch some available online videos prior to setup - to better understand what the manual is conveying. It's worked in the SE Texas heat and during our coldest winter days. With everything activated - every time I've seen authorities aiming something it's detected it in my area. I was looking at different price ranges and it seemed like all of them (even the lower priced models) had something to like about them. I didn't want to spend $500 when a $200 model would work just as good except without the bells and whistles so I took the chance and got one. The one thing I was a little skeptical about was people said it picked up a signal before they could see the police car. I thought surely they would have to be nearby for it to work. Then one day I was out driving down a highway and it lit up. I started watching for where the cop would be. Would you believe I went 1.5 miles only to pass one of those radar speed signs? I thought holy cow the reviews were right about the range. Given a straight path and nothing blocking the signal it really can get to you before the source is visible. Best to date.
I've been using radar detectors since the 80's. Technology has changed a lot since then. This is by far the best I've used to date. K band is still the main equipment used by law enforcement in our area, so yeah, you're going to get some false positives due to the number of electronic devices used in cities. But in my experience with two of these they are much less than previous models. And you can usually tell by the alert if its false. It has paid for itself many times over. The distance is great. Many time in highway mode may wife and I are like, where is he, then a couple of minutes later one passes us from behind or shows up over the hill a mile or two down the road. Best bang for your buck.
When properly set up for your area, this performs better, with extreme range, than one could expect, very quiet, great competitive price, that's a mouthful considering i stepped out of a v1 with all its accessories, the only reason i gave a four was i did enjoy the directional arrows which did save me once. Well worth the price for peace of mind.
This has awesome range. On city it will start and you will look and look then here they come. On a straight stretch it gave a 2 mile warning on city. It learns where spurious signals are and ignores them. Ten times the range of my old 40 dollar units and easy to use.
