The 5’8” Osprey Woof Surfboard is unique with both its size and V-shaped swallow tail, great for surfers looking to get on the water and progressing quickly while looking good doing so. A soft surfboard or "Foamie” makes a perfect beginner’s surfboard because it has everything you need to succeed when learning to surf, including lots of volume and buoyancy for stability, and a soft foam outer to help prevent bangs and bumps as you learn to control your surfboard. This surfboard is ideal for beginners the shorter length, fish tail and XPE deck helps make manoeuvrability a lot easier, also helping paddling out and building up speed on small waves.
This was a gift for a 14 year old boy. Typically, he is quite rough with things. I'm not sure this board will survive until it gets to the sea, let alone in surf! The finish seemed very good, with a great decorative surface and a super slick base. Straight out of the box it looked brilliant. Whilst taking off the wrapping he dropped it against the wall of the house (only a couple of feet) but the board skin punctured and the foam was damaged. There were NO instructions, so he was clueless how to fit the fins. The punched holes didn't line up with the plastic sockets on the fins, so I had to force the fins through the foam to get anything in place. Getting the screws to fit into the sockets was very tricky. Took a long time and a lot of manipulation. Some of the screws, which are plastic were bent badly so aligning them was murder. The leash fixing was even worse, as the socket seemed to have splines which were way bigger than the punched hole. All in all it was shoddy and disappointing. I suspect it'll snap on the first outing and beach gravel is going to shred it I reckon. Seems to me foamies are not a good solution as the protective skins are too fragile, and when they fail they will pollute the ocean with further plastic junk.
