I decided to buy Lost in Translation as it appeared in the Times Top 100 Films of all time list in April 2008 and I'm a fan of both Scarlett Johansson and Bill Murray. The plot is really simple -- Bill Murray plays a famous film star working in Japan shooting a whisky advert. Bored by the trappings of his fame and the attention his fame brings, he meets Charlotte (played by Scarlett)in the hotel where they are both staying. Charlotte has accompanied her photographer husband on a working trip and has to amuse herself whilst he works. Older man is entertained by younger woman in Tokyo and together they find a really touching friendship which is both funny and sensual. Expectations build -- great scene in the hotel lift when they kiss (just). A really romantic and atmospheric film -- It's definitely not a chick flic and its all the better for that. You also get a glimpse at the city of Tokyo through the characters' eyes. Girls, watch it on your own or with some friends, glass of wine, bar of chocolate. I loved it. Added bonus is the inclusion of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind with Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet on a second disc -- bargain!Read full review
lost in translation was rubbish, very boring, nothing realy happens, scarlet johanson looks awful in it, it realy is pointless watching this film, it was suposed to be good don't know why? it was one of the most boring films i've ever seen. spotless mind was slightly better but only realy because kate and jim were good and entertaining but the story of the film is very confuseing and you don't realy know whats going on, very strange. worth watching though.
Both amazing films worth the money, if you haven't seen these already watch them asap. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind has Jim Carrey star in his best role to date, with Kate Winslet. Kate Winslet undergoes a procedure to forget Jim Carrey in which Jim does the same once he finds out, but during the procedure he remembers how much he loved her in the first place, great film, but weird. Lost In Translation is just as weird, but also amazing it follows Bill Murray playing an out of work actor who only does TV adverts and the such, but then he meets Scarlett Johansson, they then undergo a weird relationship.
Fantastic! 2 great films in one go. both thought-provoking and inspiring. this is what films should be all about! if you like one i can guarentee you'll like the other. LIT taught me bill murray will never cease to be great and ESOTSM taught me jim carrey can act. both, as i said, superb films.
