Foundation Make Up
Foundation make up has come a long way since Max Factor first developed his Pan Cake, the first ever commercially available face foundation.
Pan Cake was originally developed for use in films, but because it was so loved by the actresses, the demand to make it available for women everywhere was overwhelming and a new type of make up was born. This was one of the most successful launches of all time.
Modern foundations are light and easy to apply, but the ethos of Pan Cake remains to this day. Foundation make up has evolved to encompass several formulations and there is a foundation that will suit all skin types and preferences. In recent years alphabet creams have appeared; BB and CC formulations that promise to even out skin tone and provide long lasting coverage that will also illuminate and hydrate.
Liquid foundation make up
Liquid foundation remains the most popular formulation, as it tends to be lightweight and easy to blend, suiting most skin types. Liquid foundation provides a reliable, even coverage along with SPF protection and mineral ingredients. If you have oily skin, look for an oil free formulation.
Cream foundation
Another popular choice, these are better suited to women with dry or more mature skin. These oil based cream foundations are thick and creamy, available in tubes, compact and stick application. They are good for offering extra coverage with moisturising benefits.
Solid foundation
Solid foundations, cake or stick formulations are great for oily skin as they dry quickly and give a matte appearance, evening out oiliness. They are best saved for nights out as they can be a bit on the heavy side for daily use. They are great for offering full coverage if you have acne or blemishes.
Powder foundation
Loose and pressed powder foundations are for coverage only as they don't usually contain any moisturising ingredients. They can also be used for setting make up after application.
Mousse foundation
A lighter formulation that is applied easily, mousse foundation is for skin that doesn't need much coverage, and suits dry skin due to its even, light application.
