Reviews"There are still glimmers of magic here. The second single 'Darlin’,' their austere attempt to match Motown’s heights, has a great bounce and swing, capped off by one of Carl Wilson’s best vocal performances."

  • A glimpse into the back pages of a sublime band

Even at their worst , the Beach Boys are never less than interesting. Even if their attempts st blue eyed soul are a little misguided , the sonic wonderland of their vocals makes me forgive them and fill me with gratitude to be on the same planet . I love the demos even more than the finished product , in some cases . Wonderful collection .

  • Post Sounds

There is a strong mythology about Brian Wilson losing the production plot after the applauded "Pet Sounds" and failed to launch "Smile. However, as listeners to "Sunshine Tomorrow" will hear, Brian was still in good form in 1967 with this selection of stripped back tunes. "Wild Honey" might have failed against the more intricate Beatles "Sgt Pepper", but really holds its own in Stereo against the 1968 earth of the "White Album". If anything the later day stereo re releases of both "Smiley Smile" in 2012 and today's "Sunshine Tomorrow" reinforce the unfairness of critics in 1967. This music wasn't "Smile" and without that albatross it shine's on its own merits. The shelved "Lei'd in Hawaii" album also included on this set demonstrates how great a live (in the studio) band the Beachboys were. One can only guess where the group might have gone had "Lei'd..." been released as a stopgap album and "Wild Honey" delayed long enough for all of us to come to our senses. Oh well, at least we have "Sunshine Tomorrow".
