About this product

Product Information

Against the backdrop of a bleak Northern England town in the 1950s, an unlikely love story unfolds. BETWEEN TWO WOMEN is the intelligent and moving story of a tough, wizened working-class heroine, Ellen Hardy (Barbara Marten). When she meets her son's lively and colourful teacher, Kathy (Andrina Carroll) a woman very different from herself she cannot rid herself of her feelings of desire, and she is plagued by guilt at her emotional transgression. Nuanced and complex performances add to the power of this hidden gem of a film.

  • Northern set Kitchen Sink drama

Homage to the late 1950’s, early 1960’s British New Wave cinema, Between Two Women is filmed in the tradition of the Kitchen Sink Drama. Those with a low concentration threshold, may miss the very subtle queer aspect of the storyline of the two very different women, from across the class divide of a working class industrial northern town, slowly falling for one another. Using real life locations and sets, it’s a gentle contemporary spin on a kitchen sink drama of yesteryear.
